À DEUX

À Deux featured a2. orchestra founders Josh Spirek (double bass) and Aiden Labuschagne (oboe), joined by piano in a program built around the unusual pairing of oboe and double bass. The recital brought together works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Bach, Vanhal and Britten, alongside the Australian premiere of Goplerud’s Schubert’s Trout Served Four Ways and a world premiere commissioned from West Australian composer Marcel Howell.

The program also revisited The Velocity of Angels by West Australian composer Nick Kyriakacis, which Josh and Aiden had premiered in 2022. À Deux brought together the two musicians whose collaboration had helped spark the creation of a2. orchestra, offering a more intimate look at the musicians and partnership behind the organisation.
